Weekly update: many activities, little sewing from With Strings Attached

Who says we can't try new things?  After decades of a Saturday luncheon, this year the AAUW gathering was on Friday at  Lamb's Farm.  It's a residential vocational center for adults with disabilities. Their restaurant servers are clients.   Of course we don't just eat -- we raise money!  There's a white elephant/silent auction, a 50/50 cash raffle, and the quilt raffle.

The winner is a member of the Naperville branch. She and I will meet up sometime soon for the handoff.

The quilt raised $390 for the AAUW  Greatest Needs Fund (unrestricted support for ...

Midweek: table runner + reading from With Strings Attached

The two Waukegan-based P.E.O. chapters had their joint holiday party yesterday afternoon.  Though neither is my chapter, I knew most everyone there.   Just desserts, and delicious!

I finished the table runner for the gift exchange at tomorrow's Rotary meeting.  I searched the stash and eventually found just the right fabric.   (I realize that I mispieced the Air Castle block at the bottom so it looks a little clunky. Too late!)

Now I'm working on the coral HSTs for the Old Town mystery. I made 5 sets Tuesday evening.  Many more to come.

Midweek: a finish from With Strings Attached

It's been a quiet week so far.  Perhaps I'm simmering down after the disappointment of the election results, resigned to the announcements about the change in government and all the analyses of what happened.

S had dentist appointments Monday and Tuesday which went well (whew).  Last evening my P.E.O. chapter met by Zoom.  The program was given by a church choir director (a chapter sister is in that choir) who is also a middle school music teacher. She talked about requiems, the funeral masses set to music.   I had no idea there was so much to ...

Sewing, Stamping, and the Fiber Fair from From My Carolina Home

Saturday, the Fiber Fair was held at Beginnings Quilt Shop and we set up a large booth space with quilts, quilted table toppers and runners, embroidered towels, and small items. The spectacular quilt from Pam B was on display with a placard stating that proceeds would be sent to Interfaith Assistance Ministry. Unfortunately, it did not sell. So, I am in the process of identifying a way to get it sold or raffled for the benefit of hurricane victims.

I sold a few things, but the wine inspired runners and placemats are all still available. If you are interested let ...

Weekly update: a finish and a start from With Strings Attached

Saturday afternoon I walked along this path.  It's part of a bike route that goes through Illinois Beach State Park and then connects with Zion parks and the forest preserves.

When Zion City was begun in 1901 the prospective residents took the train up from Chicago.   A tower near the train station allowed them to climb up and spot their house lots.  These chunks of concrete are the remaining footings for the tower.

Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

I had a very productive weekend at the guild retreat last weekend.  It was glorious to have three full days to sew--meals provided and no dishes to do!  I added binding to two quilts that are gifts so I can't show those yet, but they are both hand stitched now and ready to gift.  I quilted the table runner I showed last week that will be for sale at our church bazaar next weekend and added the binding this week when I got home. I hope someone will like it enough to purchase it! I also worked on three ...

Getting Ready for a Quilting Retreat from The Cozy Quilter

I am getting ready to go to the fall retreat for the Oxford Quilters Guild this weekend. I have a big bin full of projects--two just need binding, one is a pile of blocks that need to be made into a quilt top, some are Christmas gifts (secrets!), three new quilts to put together--pieces are cut already in preparation and also my last two placemats for Meals on Wheels.  I will not have time to get bored!  I finished the second secret project this past week and will not be able to show any pictures of it until it has ...

Table Runner Done and Cross Stitch from The Cozy Quilter

I finished the lilac stars table runner binding off last weekend for slow Sunday stitching. It is now ready for gifting! I added a lilac print stripe on the back to make it long enough.

I managed to do some cross stitching most days this week so now I have two sunflowers done and parts of a few leaves. There are four more smaller sunflowers in this quadrant of the picture.

My daughter has been adding more colours to her Ottawa cityscape. Finn is a good cross stitch holder, don't you think???

I spent some time in my sewing ...

A Gift, Orange Blocks and a Walk in the Woods from The Cozy Quilter

On the way to sewing day on Monday, I stopped at the quilt store to pick up a gift for someone and some fabric to make a table runner for a friend who likes purple.   The lilac fabric jumped out at me as there are lots of lilacs in bloom here right now.   I bought three other colours that went with the lilacs and a striped fabric for the binding.  When I arrived at the sewing studio, of course I cut right into the new fabric and got to work on the table runner. (I was supposed to be working ...
